ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has warned that Pakistan will respond firmly to any threat to its water resources, saying every drop of the country’s water was a “red line”.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of Yaadgar-e-Fatah in Islamabad, the prime minister said Pakistan wanted peace and did not seek confrontation, but its desire for peace should not be mistaken for weakness.
We want to see this region and the world free of conflicts, he said, adding that disputes should be resolved through dialogue and in accordance with United Nations resolutions.
PM Shehbaz said the enemy would remember its defeat in Marka-i-Haq, describing Yaadgar-e-Fatah as a symbol of national unity, courage and the capabilities of Pakistan’s armed forces.
He praised the Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Navy for their role in the country’s success, saying the armed forces had demonstrated professionalism and operational superiority.
The prime minister said the construction of the monument in just eight months was made possible through the special interest and efforts of Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
He described Pakistan-China relations as stronger than ever, saying Beijing had stood by Pakistan like a rock during difficult times.
PM Shehbaz also expressed optimism that Pakistan-US relations would strengthen further and said Islamabad wanted peace in Afghanistan as well.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s position on regional and international issues, the prime minister said the country would continue its moral, political and diplomatic support for the people of Kashmir and maintain its principled stance on the rights of Palestinians.
