KARAK: A wanted militant commander was killed in a security operation conducted by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Thursday in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police recently released a statement detailing a significant operation in the Emberi Kala district of Karak. During this operation, police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) engaged in a lengthy encounter, which lasted approximately four hours, resulting in the death of Hakim Nisar, a wanted commander of a banned outfit.

It said that three personnel were injured during the encounter and were promptly taken to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

The statement noted that Hakim Nisar was identified as the ringleader of a network responsible for various terrorist activities in KP, including suicide bombings and targeted killings, not only in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but also in other regions of the country.

Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed commended the bravery and professionalism demonstrated by the Karak Police, CTD, and other law enforcement agencies. He noted that they have consistently faced terrorists bravely, even in challenging situations. The IGP emphasised the exemplary role of the Karak police in safeguarding the lives and property of citizens at great personal risk.

IGP Zulfiqar Hameed also expressed his hopes for the swift recovery of the injured personnel, highlighting that their dedication and sacrifices are invaluable assets to the police force. He reaffirmed the police’s commitment to eradicating terrorism, stating that terrorists will face failure at every turn. Additionally, he announced that certificates of appreciation and awards would be given to the police team involved in the operation.
