LAHORE: Umar Akmal, a Pakistani cricketer, has blamed ex-head coach Waqar Younis for hating him and trying to destroy his career.
Umar during the interview with a local broadcaster mentioned that a lot of times it was happening that The conversation soon went viral and became a talking point between cricket lovers all over the country.
“If I remember correctly it was Waqar Younis that needed these questions answered i.e. “How can a player like you manage such things”, Umar explained with sarcasm the time when Waqar confronted him about his expenses.”
Trying to prove his innocence, Umar said, “If God has given me the blessing, then why can’t I buy nice things for myself and those whom I love?”.
The batsman of 35 years also revealed that apart from Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, a number of other players were equally troubled by the attitude that Waqar displayed towards the younger ones in the team.
Umar also informed about the incident that happened during the 2016 T20 World Cup where he was the one who suggested the removal of Waqar Younis as a head coach to PCB.
“Though I always looked up to Waqar Younis as one of the senior players, his coaching style made the team extremely pressurized. I was told that the reason behind my omission from the national side was personal bias against me rather than my performance,” Umar narrated.
Umar has been embroiled in different controversies but, nevertheless, has secured his loyal supporters’ trust by indicating his commitment to Pakistan cricket He even declined to participate in overseas leagues more than once to prioritize the national team.

“What mattered the most to me was playing for Pakistan,” he remarked. “I am still willing to play for my country.”
