BAJAUR: Two persons, including a police killed, were killed when miscreants opened fire on the Polio team in Tehsil Salarzi, Bajaur district on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in Tangi village of Tehsil Salarzi when armed persons attacked the polio team. As a result of the attack policeman and a passerby were killed on the spot. The team was busy vaccinating the children.

According to police officials, the attackers fled the scene, while local security forces have launched a search operation in the area to arrest the suspects. Police said that there may be possible terrorist or local mischief motives behind the attack, and security arrangements have been tightened in the area.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over this incident and prayed for forgiveness for the deceased and patience and fortitude for the families. The Prime Minister said that the anti-polio team personnel are busy serving the country, and the attack on them is extremely regrettable and unacceptable.

The Prime Minister directed that the attackers must be identified as soon as possible and brought to justice according to the law. He reiterated the resolve that the anti-polio campaign will continue with full intensity and dedication until polio is eradicated from the country so that every child can be provided with a safe and healthy future.

According to experts, this incident highlights the challenges of the polio campaign and security concerns at the local level, but the joint efforts of the government and security agencies will play a significant role in continuing the campaign.
