MARDAN: A man and his wife lost their lives while another person was injured when the roof of a dilapidated house collapsed in the Lond Khwar area of Mardan.
According to rescue sources on Tuesday, the victims were trapped under the debris when the roof suddenly caved in after heavy wind storm coupled with rain during night. Rescue 1122 teams, along with medical staff, disaster response vehicles and ambulances rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the report.
The rescue teams recovered the victims from the rubble and shifted the injured person to Lond Khwar Hospital after providing first aid. The deceased were identified as 60-year-old Shah Wazir and his wife, while 18-year-old Sadiq, son of Shah Wazir sustained injuries in the incident.
PDMA issues update on deadly storms in KP
Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released an initial report on the damage caused by overnight strong winds, dust storms, and heavy rainfall across the province.
According to PDMA, these rains have caused the collapse of walls and roofs of several houses, causing the death of two persons and injuring eleven other individuals. Among the dead, there is one male and one female, whereas six males, three females, and two children are among the injured.
These incidents have occurred in Bajaur, Mardan, Shangla, Swat, Torghar, and Upper Dir. PDMA has informed that the district administrations and relevant authorities are on high alert and are cooperating for providing immediate help.
It has been directed by the concerned authorities to offer aid to the affected individuals as quickly as possible. The Meteorological Department and PDMA have forecasted that heavy rains along with stormy winds will continue until May 23.
The citizens are advised by the PDMA to take preventive steps during adverse weather conditions and report the Emergency Operations Center at 1700 in case of any emergency situation.
