According to a new study, people who suffer from fatty liver disease have an increased risk of premature death if they have any of the three health problems.
The researchers’ report was reported on Wednesday in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. According to them, these health problems include high blood pressure (hypertension), diabetes (sugar) and low HDL (HDL is the good cholesterol) increase the risk of death for people with fatty liver disease.
According to the researchers, the important thing is that high blood pressure is closely linked to an increased risk of death from liver disease.
The head of the study and Dr. Matthew Divkovic of the University of Southern California’s Transplant Hepatology Department said in a news release that the general perception was that diabetes was a major health problem for patients with fatty liver, which is a key point.
More than a third of the world’s population suffers from fatty liver disease, also known as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis disease or (MASLD), the researchers said in a background note.
According to experts, this disease occurs when fat begins to accumulate in the liver, which causes tissue damage and scarring of the liver. It is usually associated with one or more of five other health problems. Which are obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high blood sugar and low levels of HDL cholesterol
