KARACHI: The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has set 2025 as the first milestone year for Pakistan to enter the space research and science field at the international level.

The commission also informed that the nation’s first astronaut would be sent to the Chinese space station in 2026 which is truly an impressive move in the direction of space exploration.

According to the spokesperson of SUPARCO, 2025 has been a year of great success for space science in Pakistan. The country has been able to launch three major satellites during the year. These launches have not only increased the area of Pakistan in space but also improved the technology of Earth observation.

As per the statement, first in January 2025 the electro-optical satellite was launched from China and then again in July the second remote sensing satellite was launched from the same space center in China. These satellites have made it possible for Pakistan to monitor and observe the Earth’s surface more accurately than before.

In October 2025, SUPARCO announced the successful launch of the first hyperspectral satellite of Pakistan, which means that now there are seven Pakistani satellites orbiting the Earth and that is the number previously reached in the country’s space program. However, this is merely the outset there are more thrilling developments yet to come.

Besides, the year 2025 turned out to be the year when Pakistan’s astronaut program was born. The spokesperson revealed that in 2026, the first Pakistani astronaut would set foot in the orbit of the Chinese space station. Furthermore, a lunar rover project has been initiated by Pakistan that envisions the deployment of a rover, with China’s support, on the Moon in the year 2028.

An official from SUPARCO stressed the fact that the lunar rover, which has been entirely designed and constructed in Pakistan, is to be launched to the Moon in 2028, thereby ushering in a substantial advancement by Pakistan in lunar research.

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) considers the achievements of this year not only as proof of the country’s increasing proficiency in space technology but also as its gradual and careful involvement in international space research.
