Peshawar: Police baton-charged protesting students and arrested several of them during a demonstration at the Postgraduate Nursing College in Hayatabad.
The students were holding a protest in support of their demands when police launched an operation to disperse the demonstrators. Police personnel allegedly baton-charged the students and arrested several protesters, with some reportedly being dragged before being taken into police vehicles.
Videos circulating of the incident reportedly show police personnel using force against the protesting students during the operation.
According to the students, they were staging a peaceful protest to press for what they described as legitimate demands. They alleged that instead of engaging in negotiations, police resorted to using force to disperse them.
The arrests and baton-charge have raised questions about the police response. The students have called for an inquiry into the use of force against peaceful protesters and demanded the immediate release of those arrested.
The protesting students strongly condemned the police action, saying that issues involving students at educational institutions should be resolved through dialogue rather than force.
Tensions reportedly increased at the college following the incident. The students have indicated that they will continue their protest until their demands are accepted.
