PESHAWAR: To make the examination system transparent and to end the cheating culture in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has taken a strict and major administrative decision and formed effective monitoring squads.

According to instructions issued by the Education Department, these special squads will suddenly visit the centres just before the start of examination papers and will remain there till the end of the paper, keeping a close eye on every single activity.

Under the new strategy, the basic responsibility of these squads will be to immediately identify any kind of irregularity, cheating or administrative negligence in the examination centres and to propose immediate corrective measures for its prevention.

Daily detailed reports on the situation of examination centres will be sent to the monitoring squads and the chairmen of the respective educational boards so that emergency review of the situation can be done and timely decisions can be taken.

The Education Department, while further tightening the requirements of transparency, has made it clear that the scope of monitoring squads will be limited only to monitoring the examination process, and this staff will not participate in any other unrelated activity during inspection.

A special instruction has been issued to prevent conflict of interest that no member of the squad will visit any examination centre or hall where his close relative or dear one is appearing for the examination, the purpose of which is to maintain impartiality and merit in this entire process at all costs. Moreover, keeping in view the sanctity of women’s examination centers and the sanctity of purdah, the administration has imposed a complete ban on the entry and visits of male officers and staff there.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education says that the sole purpose of all these strict measures is to make the conduct of examinations 100% transparent, to provide a uniform educational environment to students, and to end all kinds of irregularities in the examination process forever.
