SHANGLA: A suspect confessed to killing his father, a prominent Pashto poet and former teacher in Shangla, the other day.
The local police presented an accused man, who was arrested in Pashloor for the murder of his own father, to the media during a press conference, where he formally confessed to the crime.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Aluch Fazal Elahi Khan detailed that following the murder of the deceased, identified as Aman Abdul Rehman, his son Rahidul Haq, also known as Rickardi, had initially registered a case against unknown persons to divert suspicion. The SDPO noted that the accused actively participated in post-murder customs, including visiting the hospital, attending the funeral prayers, and participating in Fateha Khawani. However, the police department had suspected from the very beginning that the deceased’s own son might be involved in the killing.

To solve the case, a special investigation team was constituted on the direct instructions of District Police Officer (DPO) Shangla Shah Hassan Khan and SP Investigation Zahid Khan. This specialised team was supervised by SDPO Aluch himself and included Station House Officer (SHO) Roohul Amin, Official In-Charge of Investigation (OII) Mumtaz, and District Security Branch (DSB) staff. The police execution of the investigation relied heavily on various pieces of physical evidence, witness statements, and modern investigative methods, which ultimately led to the successful arrest of Rahidul Haq.

During the police interrogation, the accused confessed that his father had accumulated heavy debts from various individuals, leading to loan sharks regularly visiting their home to demand repayment.

According to the accused’s statement, a few loan sharks had visited their house on the day of the incident, which infuriated him immensely and drove him to kill his father. Police officials stated that further investigations into the case are still underway. At present, no other individual has been named in the case, and the accused has not implicated any accomplices in the crime.

SDPO Fazal Elahi Khan concluded the media briefing by stating that the police have finalised their investigation by utilising all available evidence and modern forensic principles. He emphasised that based on this airtight evidence, the police administration will make every effort to ensure the court awards the accused the death penalty for his crime.
