KARACHI: To promote sports and encourage young people to take part in healthy activities, cricket icon Shahid Khan Afridi has been appointed Sports Ambassador of the Sindh Police Sports Board.
The appointment was announced during a ceremony in Karachi attended by Sindh Inspector General Javed Alam Odho, who presented Afridi with a certificate recognising his new role. The two also exchanged commemorative shields on the occasion. Afridi remains one of Pakistan’s most recognisable cricket stars, having represented the country in 398 ODIs, 27 Tests and 98 T20 internationals. He scored 8,064 ODI runs and took 395 wickets, while claiming 48 wickets in Tests and 97 in T20Is.
He was also a key figure in Pakistan’s 2009 ICC World Twenty20 triumph and was named Player of the Tournament in the 2007 edition. Speaking on the occasion, IG Javed Alam Odho said Afridi had honoured the Sindh Police by accepting the position of Sports Ambassador.
He said the initiative aimed to encourage young people to participate in sports and positive activities while helping keep them away from drugs and other harmful influences.
