PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has forecast rain, thundershowers, and snowfall in mountainous areas across most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Sunday to Tuesday.
According to the PDMA, the upper districts, including Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Upper and Lower Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Buner, Malakand, Battagram, Shangla, Upper and Lower Kohistan, are likely to see rainfall and snowfall in the mountains.
Intermittent rain is also expected in the plain districts of the province, which include Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, North and South Waziristan, Lakki Marwat, Tank, and Dera Ismail Khan.
In light of these changing weather conditions, the PDMA has issued instructions to all district administrations and relevant institutions to take preventive measures and remain vigilant.
There is a risk of road closures and landslides in higher areas such as Naran, Kaghan, Kalam, and Chitral due to the expected rain and snowfall. Tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to take precautionary measures.
The announcement stated that the district administration, Rescue 1122, and other relevant institutions are on high alert. Citizens are urged to stay in safe locations during windstorms, thunderstorms, and snowfall.
Furthermore, the PDMA has directed farmers and livestock keepers to implement preventive measures to protect their crops and animals, as well as to continuously monitor rivers and storm drains in sensitive areas.
The PDMA spokesperson confirmed that the Emergency Operation Center is fully operational, and the public can contact the free helpline at 1700 for any emergency situations or information.
