ISLAMABAD: The Punjab government has decided to register an FIR under the Prevention of Electronic Crime(PECA) Act against Imran Khan for his controversial statement that 400 people were massacred during the Punjab government’s crackdown against Tehreek-i-Labaik Pakistan.

A meeting chaired by Maryam Nawaz decided to tighten the noose against those who spread bloodshed, mischief, and sedition in the name of protest. The Punjab government has decided to register a case under the PECA Act over the ‘provocative and false statement’ of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Chairman Imran Khan on his X-account, which mentioned 400 bodies.

On Thursday, two important meetings were held in one day under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif regarding the law and order situation in the province, in which several decisions were taken. In the meeting, it was decided to further tighten the noose against those who spread bloodshed, mischief, and sedition in the name of protest, while the provincial government expressed its determination to close the chapter of politics of violence, sedition, sedition and bloodshed forever. The meeting also decided to register a case under the PICA Act for the provocative and false statement made on the X-account of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Chairman Imran Khan about 400 bodies.

The Punjab government made it clear that the target of the state is mischief, not any religious party or belief, and the actions are only against those who have a history of destroying peace. The meeting decided that terrorism cases will be registered against those who use the pulpits of mosques and forums of madrasas in Punjab to promote hatred, chaos, or violence. Action will be taken under terrorism laws against those who undermine the sanctity of madrasas and sow the seeds of hatred or violence in the minds of children. The Punjab government imposed a complete ban on the use of nailed sticks, petrol bombs, and all types of weapons during protests. The Punjab government has decided to take immediate action against the violation of loudspeaker laws, and Section 144 is in force across Punjab, for the violation of which cases will be registered under the Terrorism Act.

In a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, it was decided to take the strictest action against the facilitators and supporters of extremist groups, and it was said that the Terrorism Act will apply to those who forcefully close markets, shops, or transport. Similarly, cases will be registered under the PECA Act against those who spread hateful content on social media, and a zero-tolerance policy will be implemented for those who spread incitement, hatred, and sedition on social media. The Punjab government has decided to impose a complete ban on every illegal activity of extremist groups and delegate powers of immediate action to the security agencies. Earlier, in the previous meeting, the Punjab government had decided to recommend to the federal government to impose a ban on the extremist party in order to establish the rule of law and the state writ.

An extraordinary meeting on law and order was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, in which extraordinary decisions were taken to establish state writ and the rule of law. It was decided in the meeting that cases will be filed in anti-terrorism courts against leaders and workers involved in the martyrdom of police officers and destruction of property, and the leadership of the extremist party will be included in the Fourth Schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act. It was decided in the meeting that all properties and assets of the extremist party will be handed over to the Auqaf Department, while there will be a complete ban on its posters, banners, and advertisements.

The meeting also decided to close the social media accounts of the extremist party that spreads hatred and freeze all bank accounts, while it was also decided to take strict action against violations of the Loudspeaker Act and bring Afghan citizens into the tax net. In addition, 14 years of imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 2 million were approved for illegal possession of weapons, when it was decided in the meeting that a combing operation would also be conducted against illegal foreigners. In addition, the Punjab government has imposed Section 144 till October 18 to maintain law and order in the province due to security concerns, under which meetings, processions, sit-ins, display of weapons, and public gatherings will also be banned in the province.

On Thursday, the Punjab government imposed Section 144 in view of the law and order situation across the province and possible terrorism concerns, which will remain effective till October 18. The Punjab Home Department has issued a notification in this regard. According to the notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, a complete ban has been imposed on the gathering of 4 or more people in public places under Section 144. In addition, protests, gatherings, processions, rallies, sit-ins, and other public gatherings will also be banned. According to the notification, a complete ban has also been imposed on the display of weapons, the use of loudspeakers, and the publication and distribution of inflammatory, hateful, or sectarian material.
