LAHORE: Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the Punjab Government has announced its decision to take legal action against individuals and platforms involved in a deliberate, malicious campaign spreading fake news and fabricated stories regarding the use of the official plane of the Punjab government.

The government has announced plans to take legal action under the Defamation Law of 2024, intending to hold accountable those responsible for spreading disinformation.

In a strong statement on X (formerly Twitter), Marriyum Aurangzeb remarked that the Punjab Government condemned the pathological liars and purveyors of fake news behind the campaign, emphasizing that disinformation will no longer be tolerated. The government highlighted that individuals and media outlets attempting to tarnish institutions and deceive the public without consequences will now face the law.

The Punjab Government further assured that it would seek the maximum penalties under the law to send a clear message: spreading fake news is not journalism; it is defamation. The statement concluded by asserting that the province would not accept such malicious behavior and declared that the time for allowing these actions to go unchallenged had ended.
