The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a warning to consumers, especially employees of government and private institutions, regarding the increasing risks of cyber fraud.

In a video message shared on social media, the PTA highlighted that cybercriminals are increasingly targeting users through phishing emails, which aim to steal login credentials, infect systems with ransomware, or gain unauthorized access to networks.

The authority noted that fraudsters often employ tactics such as threats or fake warnings to create panic, prompting users to click on malicious links or share sensitive information.

To protect themselves from cyber fraud, the PTA has advised users to take several precautionary measures.

These include verifying the sender’s identity and email address, checking the file extensions of attachments, scanning attachments before opening them, and logging out after using email accounts.

Furthermore, the PTA emphasized that official email accounts should not be used for personal or non-official purposes.

Users are also encouraged to verify the original URL before clicking on any links and to never share or transmit email passwords or one-time passwords (OTPs) via email.
