Former Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) MPA Maulana Muhammad Idrees was killed in firing by unknown persons in the Atmanzai area of Charsadda.
According to the police, Maulana Muhammad Idrees was on his way to the seminary from his home when unknown armed persons ambushed him and opened fire on him, killing him on the spot.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Charsadda Muhammad Waqas, two police personnel assigned to Maulana Idrees’ security were also injured in the incident and were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where they are being provided medical assistance.
The DPO said that after the incident, a search operation was launched by cordoning off the area, while the search for the attackers is underway. The police have also started further investigation into the incident.
Initially, the incident is being described as a target killing; however, the real facts will come out after the investigation is complete.
