ISLAMABAD: The president of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, on Thursday approved the summary recommending the appointment of Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir as Pakistan’s first Chief of Defence Forces (CDF). The president also signed the extension in the tenure of Air Chief Marshal (ACM) Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu.

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir will serve as both Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces for a period of five years. He will be the first individual to hold the position of Chief of Defence Forces in the country.
Additionally, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved a two-year extension for the Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu. This extension will take effect following the completion of his current five-year term in March 2026.
Recently, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir mentioned in an informal conversation with journalists at the Presidential Palace that the situation in Pakistan is improving. He expressed optimism, saying, “Everything is fine, and everything is in front of you.” He also stated that Pakistan is set to soar to new heights.
In related news, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has sent a summary for the appointment of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces to the Presidential Palace. This appointment will last for a period of five years, making Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir the country’s first Chief of Defense Forces.
