NEW YORK: United States President Donald Trump has described Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s praise for him as a huge honour, calling it a big appreciation in the context of sensitive times in global diplomacy.
During a press conference at White House, President Trump addressed the Middle East peace talks and said his administration was waiting to receive an answer from Hamas on the ceasefire and peace proposal being extended. “Hamas has three or four days to respond to the peace offers,” he stated. “They can accept or face very severe consequences.”
Trump said Israel, along with certain Arab and Muslim nations, has already adopted the proposed peace plan. He again insists that Hamas now stands with the option of whether to be part of the peace process or embrace the alternative option.
Speaking on the broader geopolitical landscape, Trump also mentioned recent tensions between Pakistan and India, in which he claimed seven warplanes were downed. He also mentioned he had met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the time of the crisis.
“In our conversation, I was told by Field Marshal Asim Munir that I saved millions of lives,” Trump said. “This recognition from such a venerated and overwhelming personality is nothing less than an honour.”
