Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Masoud Peshkeskian, hold telephone conversation in which the current tense situation in the region and efforts to establish peace were discussed in detail.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, in the conversation that lasted for more than an hour, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned Israel’s continued attacks on Iran, especially the recent incidents of targeting civilian installations, and expressed Pakistan’s full solidarity with the Iranian people.
He expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of more than 1900 precious lives in the attacks, prayed for the deceased and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif informed the Iranian President that Pakistan, at the level of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, is continuing diplomatic contacts with the United States, brotherly Gulf countries and other Islamic countries to create a conducive environment for peace talks.
He expressed hope that joint diplomatic efforts will lead to an effective way to reduce tension in the region. On the other hand, Iranian President Dr. Masoud Peshkian appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, explained Iran’s position regarding Israeli measures and stressed the need for confidence-building for talks and mediation. He also praised Pakistan’s positive role in promoting peace in the region.
At the end of the discussion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated his commitment that Pakistan will continue its constructive role in promoting peace and stability in the region.
