LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has resolved to initiate the process of selecting a head coach for the national Test cricket squad.
Sources reveal that the PCB will shortly compile a shortlist of candidates for the Test head coach role followed by a decision.
Azhar Mahmood, a former Pakistan all-rounder, was given the responsibility of coaching the team in the Test series at home against South Africa.
Sources additionally disclosed that the initial Test series of the year is planned for March and April. With this schedule considered, the hunt for a red-ball head coach had been put on hold temporarily.
The PCB decision to hire the ex-Pakistan all-rounder as coach of the squad for the home Test series is regarded as a major step to not only increase the team’s performance in the red-ball format but also to pave the way for the future.
PCB sacks head coach Muhammad Wasim after Women’s World Cup seatback
On November 4, Muhammad Wasim was relieved of his duties as the head coach of the Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after the team’s poor showing at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
PCB sent a signal that they are on the move to hire a fresh head coach for the women’s national team. The
Muhammad Wasim became the head coach of the Pakistan women’s cricket team in 2024 and was allowed to operate the team as he wished. However, the World Cup 2025 did not go well for Pakistan. However, the team did put up a fight with good bowling against cricket giants Australia and England and showed some potential.
Pakistan’s seven matches were all played at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, where the team met defeat against their traditional rivals India, Australia, South Africa, and Bangladesh.
PCB decided to keep on supporting the national women’s team giving them the power and the means to improve and head in a new direction with a new head coach whose appointment will be made at the earliest.
