RAWALPINDI: Director General Inter Services Public Relations Lieutenant General Ahmad Sharif said that Pakistan’s stance on terrorism was internationally acknowledged and after 2021 the incidents of terrorism increased manifold after the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan.

“Several terrorist organizations are operating in Afghanistan, which include ISIS Khurasan, Hizbu Tahrir, and Tehreek-e-Taliban. He said that the Afghan Taliban is the mother organization of the and they provide guidance to other networks. He remarked while addressing a press conference in Rawalpindi. he said that as the US pulls its troops from Afghanistan, it encouraged terrorism in Afghanistan and they left modern weapons to the Taliban organization, which is being used against Pakistan.  He added that Pakistan is absolutely clear that it will win this war against terrorism. He said that in 2025, Pakistan rendered huge sacrifices, and in this year Pakistan lost large number of forces against terrorism.

According to the DG ISPR, such counter-terrorism operations were carried out against terrorism last year, which were done for the first time in the country’s history at this level. Now it is important to see what practical steps are being taken to eliminate terrorism and the terrorist incidents that occurred last year will be comprehensively covered.

He clarified that Khawarij are terrorists and have no connection with Islam, Pakistan, or Balochistan. These elements are sedition and are working as tools of the enemy. DG ISPR said that a clear and common thinking has now emerged among the state and the people against terrorism, which is a major success in this war.

The DG ISPR also said that Afghanistan has become a base of operations for terrorism, from where attempts are being made to spread unrest in Pakistan. He reiterated the resolve that counter-terrorism operations will continue with full force.

The DG ISPR said that the state policy against terrorism is being fully implemented, however, there is still room for further improvement in the field of counter-terrorism. He said that the army, police and intelligence agencies carried out operations under a joint and coordinated strategy last year.

He said that 75,175 intelligence-based operations were conducted across the country last year, of which 14,058 were carried out in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 58,778 in Balochistan and 1,739 in other parts of the country. As a result of these operations, about 5,300 terrorists were killed during the year 2025.

According to the DG ISPR, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan were the provinces most affected by terrorism. 1,235 Pakistani citizens and security personnel were martyred in the war against terrorism, which shows the heavy cost of this struggle. He said that 27 suicide attacks took place last year, of which 16 took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 10 in Balochistan and one in Islamabad. The DG ISPR said that the creation of a politically favorable environment is one of the main reasons for terrorism.

According to DG ISPR, there was a fluctuation in terrorism incidents between 2021 and 2025. In the graph presented, red color represents the deaths of terrorists while green color represents martyrdoms. He said that in the year 2021, 761 terrorism incidents took place, in which 193 terrorists were killed while 592 Pakistanis were martyred. This year, there were almost three Pakistani martyrdoms compared to one terrorist.

According to DG ISPR, the situation improved significantly in the year 2025, when 2,597 terrorists were killed while 1,235 were martyred, that is, 2 terrorists were killed compared to one martyr. These figures reveal a clear trend in the effectiveness of counter-terrorism.

DG ISPR said that the political change in Afghanistan in 2021 proved to be a turning point in the increase in terrorism. After the Doha agreement, the security situation in the region was affected and the changes in Afghanistan also had an impact on Pakistan’s internal security.
