NEW DELHI: Former Indian ambassador to the United Nations T.S. Tirumurti has described the defence agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye as a major geopolitical setback for India, saying the emerging partnership could reshape the regional balance.
Sharing a post by Indian journalist Siddhant Sibal on social media platform X, the former Indian permanent representative to the UN recalled his earlier analysis published in The Hindu on March 10, shortly after the Iran war began.
Tirumurti said he had predicted that the evolving situation would benefit Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, as the three countries would see their regional influence and strategic importance increase.
He noted that the three countries could fill the strategic space emerging in the region, adding that such a development would not be favourable for India.
The former diplomat said his earlier assessment and predictions now appeared to be materialising, with the new defence cooperation between Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia altering the regional strategic landscape.
He acknowledged that the partnership had enhanced Pakistan’s position as an important defence and strategic player at both regional and international levels.
The remarks come amid growing discussion over changing alliances and security dynamics in the region, with analysts closely watching the impact of closer defence cooperation among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
