Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said Pakistan has extensive experience in dealing with natural disasters and remains committed to supporting climate resilience and sustainable development.
Dar made the remarks during a meeting with Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Botchwey in London, where the two sides discussed cooperation between Pakistan and the Commonwealth in various areas.
Dar said Pakistan, as a founding member of the Commonwealth, remained committed to its principles and would continue supporting youth development, climate resilience and sustainable development.
He also emphasised the importance of institutional cooperation in the banking sector to promote trade and strengthen economic ties.
Dar highlighted Pakistan’s experience in responding to natural disasters and reiterated the country’s offer to establish a Commonwealth Disaster Resilience Hub in Islamabad, which could be hosted by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The proposed hub, he said, could help strengthen cooperation and disaster preparedness among Commonwealth countries.
