Pakistan fast moving towards becoming a major mobile manufacturing hub and according to the latest data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, Pakistan recorded a significant increase of 2.79 million units in mobile phone manufacturing and assembling in March 2026.
The year-on-year increase in production was 20 percent, which is a positive sign for the country’s mobile industry.According to the PTA, local manufacturers assembled 2.79 million units during March 2026, compared to 2.33 million units in March 2025. The total production during the first quarter of 2026 reached 7.36 million units, which shows a 2 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
According to the report, Pakistan is meeting 86 percent of its mobile phone demand with locally manufactured handsets. This success is the result of government policies, incentives and import substitution measures.
Economic expert Jibran Ahmed says that 86 percent of mobile phone demand in Pakistan is met with locally manufactured handsets, which is an argument that the country’s handset assembly ecosystem is now moving towards maturity. He further said that the 20 percent annual increase in production in March 2026 shows that supply chain issues are gradually being resolved.
President Karachi Mobile Electronics Dealers Association, Minhaj Gulfam, says that this growth is due to government policies, incentives and import substitution measures. Thanks to these measures, not only foreign brands like Samsung and Vivo have strengthened their roots in Pakistan, but local brands like VGO TEL have also emerged as market leaders with a record production of 1.12 million units.
Jibran Ahmed also pointed out that although the total production in the first quarter has reached 7.36 million units, which is more than last year, the real target now should be to export these mobile phones. He believes that if this increase in production continues, Pakistan can emerge as a major mobile manufacturing hub in the region.
