Majority of the motorists really disappointed, after coming to know that they would have to follow the current speed limit on National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) despite ending austerity measures in Pakistan enacted in the aftermath of fuel crisis.

From the last several days, social media platforms and various online outlets were flooded with claims that the government restored the previous speed limit for cars and light transport vehicles (LTVs).

Following such reports quickly sparked excitement among frequent motorway users believing that the restrictions had finally been lifted and they would now enjoy the previous speed limit of 120 km/h.

However, NHMP, Police quickly confirmed that no decision has been implemented to restore the 120 km/h limit and that all existing speed restrictions remain fully enforced.

Its worth mentioning here that the act of reducing speed limits introduced in March 2026 with a purpose to save fuel during a period of soaring global oil prices.

Following the directives, the maximum speed for cars and LTVs on motorways was cut from 120 km/h to 100 km/h. Moreover, passenger buses and heavy transport vehicles restricted to the limit from 110 km/h to 90 km/h.

To avoid any violation, the Motorway Police have directed motorists to follow the current speed limits until any official notification is issued of restoring the previous speed limit.

What the Motorways police say is a clear warning to drivers relying on unverified information circulating online. Thus, wishing the restoration of the 120 km/h motorway speed limit proved a dream for motorways users so far.
