A new polio case has been reported in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, taking the total number of polio cases reported across Pakistan in 2026 to five, according to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC).
The development comes after the latest nationwide anti-polio campaign, which was conducted in 112 selected districts from Sept 21 to 27.
During the campaign, more than 28.2 million children were administered polio vaccine drops across the country.
The NEOC said polio is an incurable disease, but it can be prevented through vaccination. It urged parents to ensure their children receive polio drops during every campaign and complete their routine immunisation course on time.
The national health body stressed that eliminating polio remains a shared responsibility and called for continued cooperation from parents and communities to protect children from the disease.
