ISLAMABAD: In a major move aimed at improving consumer convenience and transparency, a new and simplified electricity bill format has been introduced across Pakistan, making it easier for consumers to understand their monthly bills.

The initiative comes in response to long-standing complaints from electricity consumers regarding the complexity of power bills.

All electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) have rolled out the redesigned bills on the directives of the Ministry of Energy.

According to officials, the new format has been developed with a focus on simplicity, transparency and user convenience.

The previous bill design was often criticised for containing excessive information, complex technical terminology and a confusing layout, making it difficult for consumers to understand billing details.

Under the revised format, key information such as the total payable amount, due date and electricity consumption in units has been displayed more prominently.

Consumers will now be able to view their monthly usage, billing details and payment information at a glance.

To align with growing digitalization, the new electricity bills also feature a QR code, enabling consumers to verify their bills and make online payments instantly through their smartphones.

Officials at the Ministry of Energy said the redesigned bill format is expected to enhance transparency in billing matters and reduce confusion among consumers, while improving communication between power companies and electricity users.
