The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for possible rain and snowfall in various areas, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir. A westerly wave is expected to approach the western parts of the country on February 8, likely affecting the northern regions.
According to the NDMA alert, rain is anticipated in many districts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir from February 8 to 10. Snowfall is also expected in the hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
During this period, rain is forecasted in Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Khushab, Jhang, Narowal, and Sialkot, along with strong winds.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain and snowfall are expected in several areas from February 9 to 10, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Malakand, Kurram, Waziristan, Mansehra, Mohmand, Buner, Haripur, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Karak, Bannu, and Kohat.
The NDMA emphasizes that slippery roads and disrupted traffic flow are likely during the rain and snowfall. The public is advised to avoid unnecessary travel during these conditions and to take appropriate precautions. Relevant agencies are instructed to remain alert for potential rescue operations and road restoration efforts due to possible hazards.
