ISLAMABAD: The Motorway Police has formulated a special traffic management strategy in view of the expected heavy rush on motorways during the Eid holidays, officials said on Sunday.

According to a spokesperson, strict legal action will be taken against motorists found violating lane discipline on all motorways to ensure smooth traffic flow and prevent accidents.

Under the new plan, cars and light transport vehicles (LTV) will be required to use the middle lane while driving. The far-right lane or third lane will be reserved strictly for overtaking by small vehicles.

Passenger buses and heavy transport vehicles will be required to remain in the far-left lane and will not be allowed to use the third lane under any circumstances.

The Motorway Police warned that vehicles involved in repeated violations will not only be fined, but further action may also be taken against them in accordance with the law.

Commuters have been urged to strictly follow lane discipline and cooperate with authorities to ensure safe and uninterrupted travel during the festive period.
