ISLAMABAD: The Shawwal moon has not been sighted in several eastern countries, including India and Bangladesh, with Eid-ul-Fitr now set to be observed on March 21 (Saturday).
According to local media, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Delhi confirmed that the moon was not visible, and Eid will be celebrated on March 21 across India. A similar announcement was made by the moon sighting authorities in Bangladesh.
In Indonesia and Malaysia, officials also reported that the Shawwal moon was not sighted, and Eid will be observed on the same day.
Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announces Eid on Saturday
Meanwhile in Pakistan, the important meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to see the moon of Shawwal 1447 AH is underway in the federal capital, however, no evidence of the moon has been received from any part of the country and Eid will be celebrated on Saturday.
The meeting is being presided over by the Chairman of the Committee, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, in which prominent scholars of different schools of thought, experts from the Meteorological Department and representatives of Suparco are participating.
Speaking during the meeting, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad said that most of the country is currently covered in clouds and no evidence of the moon has been received so far.
On the other hand, the meetings of the zonal committees are also ongoing at their respective places, which will send their reports to the Central Committee.
