PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Ring Road is set for a major modernization as the provincial government has approved a Rs 50.47 crore project to install advanced LED lighting along key sections of the route.
According to officials, the project will be executed in phases, covering important stretches of the road to improve visibility, traffic safety, and overall urban aesthetics.
The first phase will see LED lights installed from Hayatabad Toll Plaza to Kohat Road at a cost of Rs 16.08 crore. The second phase, from Kohat Road to Pir Zakori Bridge, will involve an expenditure of Rs 10.76 crore. The third phase, covering the stretch from Pir Zakori to Charsadda Road, will cost approximately Rs 8.02 crore.
Authorities have emphasized that the new LED installations will not only enhance road safety during night travel but also contribute to energy efficiency and reduce maintenance costs compared to conventional lighting.
The project is part of a broader urban development plan for Peshawar, aimed at modernizing infrastructure and providing a safer and more visually appealing environment for commuters and residents alike.
Officials stated that work on the project will be carried out in stages to minimize disruption to traffic, and local authorities will coordinate closely with relevant departments to ensure timely completion.
KP welcomes tourists: Special Eid arrangements announced
Earlier, the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has announced special arrangements for domestic and international tourists visiting the province during Eid-ul-Fitr.
Under the directives of Chief Minister Mohammad Sohail Afridi and Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, the KP Tourism, Culture, Archaeology, and Museums Department has put in place measures to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for visitors.
Director General of the Tourism Authority, Muhammad Usman Mehsud, said the government warmly welcomes tourists to the province and expects a higher influx compared to last year. “Tourism police will be on duty to facilitate traffic flow and provide assistance to visitors. All leaves for tourism police personnel have been canceled to ensure maximum coverage,” he added.
Tourist Information and Facilitation Centers will remain fully operational throughout Eid. A 24-hour helpline (1422) is available for travelers to report complaints, seek guidance, or address hotel-related issues.
Mehsud also advised tourists to contact the helpline before traveling for updates on weather and road conditions. The KP Tourism Authority, district administrations, and relevant departments will remain fully active at key tourist spots to provide all possible assistance.
These measures aim to promote safe, enjoyable, and hassle-free tourism during the festive period while highlighting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s cultural and natural attractions.
