ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police have arrested Member of the National Assembly Adil Khan Bazai, taking the total number of PTI lawmakers detained in Islamabad to six as the crackdown on PTI leadership continues.
According to police sources, the arrested lawmakers include Senator Saifullah Niazi, Sanaullah Masti Khel, Mian Ahsan Jamal Khan, Dawar Khan Kundi, Ghaus Muhammad and Adil Bazai. All of them have been detained under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance and shifted to Jhelum Jail.
Among them, Mian Ahsan Jamal and Sanaullah Masti Khel were already in custody before the latest arrest. Reports also confirm that PTI Azad Kashmir Senior Vice President Khawaja Farooq is under detention.
The arrests are linked to PTI’s planned protest and long march to Islamabad on September 27, for which the government has started sealing the capital with containers and tightening security.
PTI has condemned the arrests as an assault on the constitution and parliamentary traditions and has demanded immediate release of its detained members and access for their families and lawyers.
Separately, the Lahore High Court is scheduled to hear today petitions filed against the detention of Imran Khan’s sisters Aleema Khan, Noreen Niazi and Uzma Khan, who were detained under the MPO law for 30 days ahead of the protest.
