CHINIOT: Hundreds of motorcyclists turned up at the political office of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA and Federal Minister Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh after he announced a five-litre free petrol offer for citizens on Independence Day.
Under the initiative, citizens were required to display the Pakistani national flag on their motorcycles or vehicles to qualify for the free fuel. Petrol vouchers were distributed among citizens at Sheikh’s political office in Chiniot.
Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh said he had also provided five litres of free petrol to around 7,000 motorcycles and rickshaws last year as part of a similar initiative.
The federal minister said the fuel was being provided from his personal resources, rather than from the government treasury or his official salary. He said the initiative was aimed at providing some relief to citizens amid rising inflation.
The offer was particularly targeted at motorcyclists and rickshaw drivers, who face the daily burden of fuel expenses.
Sheikh also urged citizens to put aside political and other differences and work together for the country’s development, stability and security.
Following the announcement, a large number of citizens arrived at his political office carrying national flags to receive the free petrol vouchers as part of the Independence Day initiative.
