PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast strong winds, dust storms and thunderstorms with rain across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and several other parts of the country on Sunday, warning of possible landslides in the province’s mountainous areas and flash flooding in streams.
According to the PMD, rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms is expected in Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Buner, Kohat, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Peshawar, Mardan, Hangu, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu and North and South Waziristan. Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated locations.
The weather department warned that heavy rain could trigger landslides in the hilly districts of Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Buner, Battagram, Mansehra, Shangla and Abbottabad, while streams and nullahs may overflow due to intense downpours. It also cautioned that low-lying areas of Peshawar and Nowshera could experience urban flooding.
Elsewhere in the country, the PMD said Islamabad, Punjab, Sindh, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and northeastern Balochistan are also expected to receive rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, with isolated areas likely to witness heavy downpours.
Rain has been forecast across Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad and Multan, as well as major districts of Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur.
In Balochistan, rain is expected in Zhob, Barkhan, Nasirabad, Sibi and Khuzdar, while hot and humid weather is likely to prevail in most other parts of the province.
