PESHAWAR: A senior bureaucrat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has been accused of breaking corruption records over the past decade, allegedly accumulating assets worth over 1,000 billion rupees, according to a tweet by Sher Afzal Marwat, a PTI MNA and political figure. Marwat claimed that the official’s corrupt activities have left the system silent and ineffective in addressing the allegations.
The tweet further claims that one year ago, the bureaucrat allegedly used his frontman, “Osama,” to forcefully seize a vast Nephrite mine in Mohmand from a woman in Dera Ismail Khan. It’s reported that the mine, valued at over a billion rupees, has effectively turned into an “ATM” for the accused, generating substantial profits for personal gain.

Marwat emphasized that not only did the above-mentioned officer buy 5,000 kanals of land near Phando but also intended to use the money set by the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) for the development project. Consequently, this issue has to be dealt with immediately to prevent the loss of public money, as well as to get rid of possible conflicts of interest.
In addition, Marwat accused that a number of consultants have been compelled to make illicit payments after their works being criticized without any justification. He accused the officer of using these tactics to clear files and maintain a façade of transparency in the system.
The accusations are still unverified, however, Marwat declared that he would shortly put forward documentary evidence that would support his allegations. He also doubted the authorities’ readiness to do something if the accusations turn out to be true. “Will the mechanisms of accountability finally work, or will this case, like many others, be just filed away?” Marwat put it that way.
The lawsuit has attracted interest to the frequently raised issues of bribery, and the hesitance of the province’s administration in enforcing the law. If this claim is true, the local administration would lose its reputation and the citizens would not trust it from now on.
The incriminated government officer has not presented his account concerning the allegations yet, and the local government or the relevant authorities have not issued any statements.
