TEHRAN: There was a major power outage in some parts of Tehran and the adjacent province of Alborz after an attack on the electricity infrastructure in Iran’s capital city.

According to Iran’s Ministry of Energy, the attack was carried out on the electricity infrastructure in Tehran, resulting in a power outage in large parts of Tehran and its adjacent province, Alborz.

The attack on the electricity infrastructure in Tehran was confirmed in an interview by Iran’s Deputy Minister of Energy, Mostafa Ranjabi Mashhadi, on state television. According to the deputy minister, the attack on the electricity infrastructure in Tehran was carried out when a shell struck a major electricity pole just outside the city of Karaj in Iran’s Alborz Province, located to the northwest of Tehran. The attack also caused a power outage in the city of Tehran.

Mashhadi said that there has been considerable damage to the power transmission substation in the eastern part of Tehran, which was destroyed on the night of the attack. Nonetheless, he also sought to allay the fears of the people of Iran regarding the power outage in Tehran, stating that they had nothing to worry about because it was already under control.

Fars News Agency reported that electricity has been restored in most parts of Tehran and Karaj. However, there is still an outage in the Alborz province, as a part of the power grid of this province is damaged. The Ministry of Energy has announced that emergency teams are working hard to restore electricity to the rest of the affected areas as soon as possible.

However, the attack has raised a high level of concern, as it has highlighted the susceptibility of the country’s critical infrastructure to sabotage and security threats. The Iranian government has not identified the attackers, and as of now, they have promised to investigate the attack. However, the Ministry of Energy has asked people to remain calm, as they are doing everything possible to prevent any further attacks and ensure the security of the country’s energy.
