PESHAWAR: The National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) has closed the motorway from Peshawar to Islamabad for all types of traffic due to dense fog.

The closure affects several sections of the road due to poor visibility caused by fog. Specifically, the area from Swabi to Peshawar is closed, and motorists are being directed to the Grand Trunk Road.

M1 motorway from Peshawar Toll plaza to Rashkai has been closed for all kinds of traffic due to Dense fog and extremely low visibility.

According to details, the M-1 motorway has been closed from Swabi to Peshawar, while traffic on the M-2 has been suspended from Thokar Niaz Baig to Balkassar. The M-3 remains closed between Faizpur and Jaranwala, and the M-4 from Sher Shah to Sham Kot.

Similarly, the M-5 motorway has been shut from Sher Shah to Rohri, while traffic on the M-14 has been suspended from Injra to the River Indus.

Additional sections, including the M-3 from Jaranwala to Darkhana, the M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakeem and from Gojra to Abdul Hakeem, and the M-5 from Multan to Zahir Pir and Sukkur, have also been closed.

Motorists were advised to plan their journeys during safer daylight hours, between 10am and 6pm, and to avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.

The motorway police spokesperson stated that the closure of motorways is totally for the purpose of the safety of citizens and to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of people.

The spokesperson urged travelers to use the front and back fog lights during travel to avoid any incident and advised them to prefer travelling in daylight during the foggy season.

The purpose of closing the motorway is to prevent accidents and protect the lives and property of motorway users. Motorway police also advised to avoid speeding and keep a longer distance from the vehicle in front than usual.
