PESHAWAR: Local government representatives led by the Local Councils Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have intensified their protest against the dysfunctional local government system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and set a deadline of February 11 to provincial government to meet their demands.

Local government representatives have assured to participate in the Peshawar sit-in under any circumstances against the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s brutal policies of the local government system. Local Councils Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had announced a protest sit-in in front of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly but after the provincial government invited them to hold talks, the Local Councils Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also changed its strategy and gave the provincial government a deadline of February 11, taking the position that if the meeting with Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi on February 11 was not held then they would resume their set in against government.

President Local Councils Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mayor Mardan Himayatullah Mayar, said that local government representatives, political party leaders, workers, and the public of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have been directed to gather at Jinnah Park, Peshawar, on February 13 at 12:00 am. According to Himayatullah Mayar, after gathering at Jinnah Park on February 13 at 12:00 pm, a protest sit-in will begin at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Chowk at 12:30 pm. President Local Councils Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mayor Mardan Himayatullah Mayar, appealed to local government representatives from across the province to come to Peshawar with their beds and blankets.

According to Himayatullah Mayar, the provincial government has been reneging on promises for the past four years, but this time the sit-in will end only after not only meeting the demands but also implementing practical measures.
