A wedding ceremony in India turned into a battlefield when a minor dispute escalated, leaving one youth dead and another seriously injured when a youth complained about a leg piece.
According to media reports, the wedding ceremony of citizen Jitendra’s daughter was going on at a local marriage hall in the Indian city of Gorakhpur. After the arrival of the procession on Friday night, a bitter argument broke out between the girl’s family and the procession members over the issue of food.
Sources say that the matter further deteriorated when a procession member expressed his anger over not getting a leg piece for the food, after which the minor dispute turned into a fight.
According to eyewitnesses, bricks and stones were hurled freely from both sides, while some people even attacked each other with swords and belts. A stampede broke out in the marriage hall, and guests were running here and there to save their lives.
According to reports, during the clash, the girl’s family caught two young men from the wedding party and tortured them, as a result of which a young man named Samit was seriously injured. He was immediately shifted to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries, while another young man named ‘Nepali’ is undergoing treatment.
According to the police, the accused fled after the incident; however, on receiving information, the police reached the spot, took the body into custody, and shifted it for post-mortem. A case has been registered on the complaint of the victim’s family, and several accused have been arrested so far, while the search for others is underway.
