PESHAWAR: After the martyrdom of innocent children due to the collapse of a school roof in the Dir Colony area of Peshawar, the secrets of the worst corruption and financial irregularities during the 13-year rule of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the province have started to be revealed.
Parents said the Peshawar tragedy was not just an accident, but a direct result of corruption worth billions of rupees in the education sector and the commission mafia during the PTI era. According to reports and public concerns, during the last 13 years, billions of rupees of funds obtained from the federal government and international institutions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the name of ‘Educational Emergency’ and ‘School Upgradation’ were limited to paperwork.
The result of 13 years of worst nepotism and bribery culture in the Education Department and Building Control Authority was that, without any safety clearance and engineering audit, dilapidated residential houses were issued licenses and NOCs to run private schools.
This system of bribery was so strong that money was preferred over the lives of children, and thus death traps were allowed to be established across the province. After the incident, a strong reaction came from civil society and parents who said that government looted the province. The education budget, instead of being spent on schools, was wasted on sit-ins, political rallies, and filling the pockets of its political members.
The martyrdom of innocent children is a slap in the face of this corrupt system. The public has demanded that NAB, FIA, and the judiciary immediately investigate all funds of the education department during the 13-year tenure of PTI, the issuance of NOCs, and the assets of former ministers and advisors of education. T
The public and the affected families have demanded that the matter should not be suppressed by arresting only the school owner, but all those former ministers, advisors, and officers of PTI who took bribes to approve these fake schools and embezzled billions of rupees in the education budget should also be brought to justice.
