PESHAWAR: Independent Monitoring Units recorded worrying report on the attendance of medical officers in government district headquarters hospitals and sub-divisional headquarters hospitals of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to this report of December 2025, the overall attendance of medical officers across the province has been recorded at 83 percent, which is 2 percent less than the previous month. According to the report, there are nine district headquarters hospitals in the province where the attendance of medical officers remained below the prescribed standard of 80 percent, while 14 DHQs have seen a further decline in attendance compared to the previous month.

According to the data, attendance in many important districts has decreased to an alarming extent and has gone below 60 percent. The report has also identified hospitals where cases of continuous absence have come to light, due to which patients have faced severe difficulties in receiving treatment.

The report also states that the reasons for the absence of medical officers in some hospitals include leave without permission, absence in the name of government duty, and private practice. The monitoring unit has clarified that action against these officers, roster correction, and disciplinary measures have been recommended.
