PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department on Tuesday issued a health emergency alert in view of the fear of the Congo virus on Eid al-Azha.

The Health Department has announced that all medical centres will remain on high alert during the Eid holidays, and emergency and trauma services will be continued without interruption. A 24-hour presence of doctors and medical staff will be ensured. Special help desks will be established for the Congo virus in hospitals, and a screening system will be activated for the early diagnosis of suspected patients.

It noted that rapid response teams will remain active to deal with the epidemic situation, and an ample stock of medicines, blood, and protective equipment will be ensured in hospitals.

Furthermore, an awareness campaign will be launched across the province to prevent the Congo virus. The Health Department has instructed butchers and animal handlers to use gloves and masks. In the markets, livestock disinfectant spray and tick control will be ensured. Sewage and hospital waste will be disposed of under SOPs, and daily situation reports will be compiled during Eid.
