‎PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is expected to approve a 250% increase in the basic salaries of police officers and personnel serving in terrorism-affected areas, officials confirmed.

‎According to police authorities, the proposal involves granting “hard-area allowance” to KP police personnel deployed on counterterrorism duties. The recommendations have already been approved at the provincial level and forwarded to the federal government for final approval.

‎The KP Home Department first sent the request for hard-area status to the federal government in March 2025. Police officials have repeatedly demanded special financial incentives, citing the high risks in counterterrorism operations and salary disparities with other provinces.

‎IGP Zulfiqar Hameed earlier highlighted that a KP constable at BS-7 currently earns Rs69,127, compared to Rs73,000 in Punjab and Rs69,885 in Balochistan.

‎Officials said the 250% increase will only take effect after the federal government grants approval and issues a formal notification.
