The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has implemented a 25% reduction in the monthly petrol quota for government vehicles as part of austerity measures across the province in view of the possible shortage of petroleum products and financial resources.

In this regard, the Education Administration Department (Transport Wing) has issued a formal notification. According to the notification, this decision was taken in a meeting of the provincial cabinet, under which the petrol limit for government vehicles provided to government officers and various departments has been reduced.

The aim of this decision is to limit the use of petroleum products and reduce government expenditure. According to the document, the petrol quota for government vehicles for ministers, advisors, special assistants to the chief minister and parliamentary secretaries was fixed at 390 litres per month, which has been reduced to 292 litres.

Similarly, for the chief secretary, additional chief secretary and finance secretary, the 146 litres per month has been reduced to about 110 liters. The petrol quota for additional chief secretaries, administrative secretaries, commissioners of Malakand and Hazara divisions and regional police officers has been reduced from 130 liters to about 98 liters. Similarly, for DIGs and officers of the Chief Minister’s Action Team, the 114 liters per month has been reduced to 85 liters. The petrol quota for the Chairman, Public Service Commission, Services Tribunal and Ombudsman has been reduced from 98 liters to 74 liters, while the limit for ADC, AC, SP and other officers of district offices has been reduced from 104 liters to about 78 liters. Similarly, the monthly petrol quota for all secretaries’ offices, divisional directors, district officers of health, education and other departments has been reduced from 72 liters to 54 liters, while the limit for some other district offices has been reduced from 59 liters to 45 liters.

According to the announcement, the petrol limit has also been reduced for various police posts. The petrol quota for SDPOs has been fixed at 37 litres, while the limit for traffic police officers has been set at 195 litres. Similarly, specific limits have also been set for police stations and provincial assembly and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa houses. According to the administration department, for those posts which are not clearly mentioned in the notification, a 25% reduction in the monthly petrol quota will also be considered from March 2026.

This decision has been implemented for two months from March 2026 to April 30, 2026. The provincial government has directed all administrative secretaries, commissioners and concerned institutions to ensure strict implementation of the revised petrol quota so as to ensure effective use of government resources and conservation of energy.
