PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi has approved 42 major development projects worth over Rs 140 billion during a meeting of the Provincial Development Program (PDWP), in line with the vision of PTI founder Imran Khan.
According to a statement issued by the KP government on Wednesday, a significant portion of the approved funds, over Rs 50 billion, has been allocated to the health sector. The projects include the establishment of Cath Labs, the upgradation of District Headquarters (DHQ) hospitals, and the enhancement of capacity to effectively deal with epidemic diseases across the province.
In the agriculture sector, projects aimed at supplying water to 170,000 acres of land were approved to boost agricultural production and strengthen the local economy. Flood protection, irrigation, and canal system schemes will particularly benefit agricultural lands in Bannu and Lakki Marwat, with around 113,400 people expected to benefit from these initiatives.
The PDWP also approved the establishment of a divisional-level Autism Centre of Excellence to support children. Additionally, hostels will be constructed for students at Bannu Medical College, while emergency and secondary healthcare facilities in merged districts will be further improved.
Development schemes were also approved in multiple sectors, including sports, local government, social welfare, excise, and taxation, reflecting the provincial government’s broader strategy for inclusive and sustainable development.
