PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has recommended 50 personalities from the province for Pakistan’s civil and gallantry awards, with the recommendations sent to the federal government for consideration.
According to sources, the recommendations were made after the federal government sought additional names from KP following criticism over the province being overlooked in this year’s civil awards.
The provincial government has proposed 28 individuals for gallantry awards and 22 for civil awards. The names, along with the proposed honours, have been forwarded to the Cabinet Division in Islamabad by the Cabinet Wing of the KP Administration Department.
Among the prominent names recommended for gallantry awards are KP Inspector General Zulfiqar Hameed for the Hilal-i-Shujaat and Nishan-i-Imtiaz, while several police and security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty have been proposed for the Sitara-i-Shujaat and Tamgha-i-Shujaat.
For civil awards, Additional Chief Secretary Muhammad Abid Majeed and Additional IG Headquarters Abbas Ahsan have been recommended for the Hilal-i-Imtiaz. DIG Safe Cities Project Ijaz Ahmed has been proposed for the Sitara-i-Imtiaz.
Several other senior administrative, police and government officials have also been recommended for various civil honours.
The recommendations have been forwarded to the Cabinet Division in Islamabad, which will process the names as part of the final selection of civil and gallantry award recipients.
