PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved a major relief for government employees by sanctioning a 100% increase in the performance allowance.

According to a private news channel, the KP Cabinet, in its meeting, decided to increase the performance allowance for Attorney Cadre officers from 60% to 100%.  As per the official notification, the performance allowance will now be equal to the initial basic pay of 2022.

If an officer’s basic pay in 2022 was Rs. 80,000, they will now receive Rs. 80,000 per month as a performance allowance. However, pension and gratuity will not be included in this allowance, and the performance allowance will also fall under the income tax bracket.

The notification further states that the allowance will not be payable during extraordinary leave, long leave, or suspension periods. The government has also clarified that non-Attorney Cadre officers, officers appointed on market-based salaries, and officers working on special packages will not be entitled to the Attorney Performance Allowance.

The KP government has cancelled all previous orders and notifications issued in this regard, and the new system will take effect immediately. Previously, Attorney Cadre officers were receiving a performance allowance equal to 60% of their basic pay.

This has now been increased to 100%, resulting in a significant jump in the salaries of government legal officers. The government stated that the move aims to improve performance and enhance the efficiency of legal officers in the province.
