KARAK: Investigators are examining allegations that local facilitators may have provided militants with advance information about police personnel movements before an attack in Karak that reportedly claimed the lives of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and three other police officials.
According to preliminary information attributed to Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) sources, suspected local facilitators may have shared details of police movements with the attackers before the incident.
The initial findings reportedly suggest possible political affiliations between some individuals under investigation and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The preliminary information further alleges that individuals under investigation had attended political gatherings addressed by PTI Member of the National Assembly Shahid Khattak in the recent past.
Investigators are reportedly examining whether the suspected facilitators have an organisational connection with PTI or Shahid Khattak, or whether their alleged association is limited to being voters or supporters.
The inquiry is also expected to establish whether any political affiliation had a direct connection to the alleged sharing of sensitive information about police movements.
According to the information attributed to CTD sources, the process of identifying and verifying the suspected facilitators is still underway.
