TEHRAN: Iran has confirmed that it is exchanging messages with the United States through Pakistan, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghai said on Wednesday.
Baghai stated that the messages are part of ongoing communications regarding US proposals for a ceasefire, which Iran is currently reviewing. He added that Iran has not yet formally responded to the American suggestions, but once the review is complete, its official response will be sent to the U.S. through Pakistan.
According to media reports, the original US ceasefire proposals have now been condensed to a single page. US.Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that the conflict, which began on February 28 and was labelled “Operation Epic Fury” by Washington, has now concluded.
Separately, former US President Donald Trump announced the suspension of Project Freedom, an initiative aimed at controlling the Strait of Hormuz, citing indications of progress in negotiations led by Pakistan and other countries.
Trump: Iran ready to end nuclear program, positive talks underway
Earlier, US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran is now willing to halt its nuclear program and engage in negotiations on multiple matters. Speaking to the media from the Oval Office, Trump described the recent discussions with Iran as “very positive” and suggested that the country is eager to reach a deal.
According to Trump, American troops managed to undermine the military power of Iran, which included, in particular, its air force, navy, missiles, and radars. In addition to that, Trump pointed out that some of the most important Iranian figures were destroyed during the conflict, which can be considered regime change.
“The whole thing is very simple – Iran should not have nuclear weapons at all. We are powerful enough now and have already accomplished much. Within the last 24 hours, we had a good negotiation with Iran,” said the US President. Moreover, he mentioned that earlier negotiations didn’t lead to any results, but this time he’s sure that a new agreement will be made.
Donald Trump answered journalists’ questions concerning the rumour about the next 30 days being the deadline.
