Amid the ongoing tension in the Middle East, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has made a serious accusation against the United States, saying that Washington is using drones called ‘Locust’ that resemble Iranian-made drones. Iran claims that a ‘False Flag’ operation is being carried out against Tehran by targeting Arab countries with these drones in order to damage Iran’s relations with its neighbors.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said in an interview with ‘Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed’ that Tehran has information that the United States and Israel are attacking Arab states from specific locations. Their aim is to blame Iran for these attacks.
Iran says the US has developed ‘Locust’ drones modeled after the Shahed-136 to target civilian and defense installations in the Gulf countries and give the world the impression that these attacks were carried out by Iran. Tehran has proposed that the Gulf countries form a joint investigation committee that can examine the debris of recent attacks and identify the real drones.
On the other hand, US officials have rejected these allegations and clarified that ‘Locust’ is actually a modern laser defense system, which is capable of melting Iranian drones in the air. This system is extremely cheap and costs only a few dollars per shot.
These events of March 2026 have brought the region to the brink of war. While Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain have claimed to have intercepted hundreds of Iranian drones, Tehran insists it has only targeted US bases and that the attacks on civilian areas are part of a US ‘false flag’ strategy.
